Murchison Falls National Park is crossed by the might River Nile on which the spectacular Murchison Falls is located. Witnessing the world’s strongest waterfall is one of the biggest highlights on safari in Uganda. Also, the Nile hosts plenty of wildlife such as hippos and crocodiles. Therefore, not to be missed on this Murchison Falls National Park tour is a boat cruise safari on the River Nile to the base of the falls and hike to the top of the Murchison Falls!

3 day / 2 night Murchison Falls tour itinerary:

Day 1 – travel to Murchison Falls National Park, optional rhino tracking in Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Your tour driver shall pick you from Kampala or Entebbe and leave for Murchison Falls National Park which is about 6 hours of drive, including a stopover in Masindi town for lunch.

Optional tour activity:

Rhino tracking tour at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary: Along the way you can stop over at the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a 1 hour guided Rhino tracking adventure. The sanctuary is home to the only Rhinos in the wild in Uganda. The Rhino tracking gives you a chance to see all the famed “big five” on this trip. After seeing the Rhinos in Ziwa the other four members of “big five” in Murchison Falls National Park are Buffalo, Elephant, Leopard, and Lion.

Day 2 – game drive, boat cruise and hike to top of the Murchison Falls

You will wake up to early cup of tea or coffee to warm you up before heading out for a 4 hour game drive in the Murchison Falls National Park. The northern bank of Nile is where the game drives are done because of the predominant savannah grasslands which host most of the animals in Murchison Falls National Park. You will traverse several tracks and look out for animals and birds as you enjoy the beautiful savanna. Expected animals to be seen include Giraffes, Buffaloes, Elephants, Warthogs, several species of Antelope such as Oribi, Kob, Jackson’s Hartebeest, Topi, Waterbuck, and Bushbuck. You have a good chance of seeing the cats such as the lions, hyenas, jackals, leopards, but cannot guarantee.

After the safari you shall return to the lodge for lunch and some relaxation.

Later you shall go out for a boat cruise along the River Nile scheduled for 2pm. This is a 2 hour long boat trip to the bottom of the Murchison Falls. You will enjoy sighting several wildlife along the Nile including as Crocodiles, Monitor Lizards, and several water birds. Also several big animals come to drink and cool off the heat during the hot sunny days.

The boat cruise shall bring you to the base of the Murchison Falls and shall meet a waiting park ranger and go on a hike to the top of the Murchison Falls. This is a 45 minute hike from the base of the falls to the top. You will witness the might river Nile squeezing through a gap of 7 meters wide and explode into a whirlpool about 42 meters below for continuing on a calm course. It is a spectacle and one of the biggest highlights of this trip. You will meet the tour driver at the top and transfer back to lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3 – travel back to Kampala.

Today you can do another game drive in the park to watch more animals and then check out and travel back to Kampala.
